The residency took place in August, towards the end of Autumn. We were able to enjoy the last of the wild flowers. A fellow artist and friend, Roberta, picked these flowers and placed it in our communal kitchen. They called to be painted!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eLezanne Scott\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\"\u003eLezanne Scott is a self-taught artist from South Africa, now based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her work explores themes of transience, presence, and the connection between human experience and place. Using a variety of mediums, including watercolours, oils, and mixed media on paper and panels, Lezanne’s practice shifts fluidly between abstraction and observation, offering a way to express the intangible emotions and sensations tied to memory and landscape.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHer background as an occupational therapist and coach has shaped her ability to observe and respond to human fragility and resilience. These insights inform her exploration of the human form and its relationship to place, with her figurative works often treating the body as a kind of landscape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHer paintings invite viewers into imagined spaces, where layers of texture, mark-making, and colour evoke a sense of presence and emotional resonance. Through her art, Lezanne continues to examine the boundaries between the seen and the felt, creating work that is both deeply personal and open to interpretation. Whether painting outdoors en plein air or working in her studio, Lezanne seeks to create work that invites viewers to connect with their own experiences of presence and belonging.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLezanne’s artistic journey has been shaped by significant personal experiences and the landscapes she has called home, from the dramatic terrains of South Africa to the Scottish Highlands.
