Alfred Budaza
Based in Philippi, Cape Town, Alfred Budaza was born into a family with a deep appreciation for the arts. His artistic journey has been shaped by community art projects, studies at Sivuyile College and Protea Village College, and countless workshops - a process of learning and practice that has led to a distinctive and accomplished body of work.

Budaza’s paintings are rooted in human connection, often depicting people in moments of movement, joy, and togetherness. For him, art is a way of affirming that unity can create strength, even in difficult circumstances. His strong, textured oil paintings -  layered with carved lines and a distinctly African sensibility - draw inspiration from the colours and rhythms of his surroundings, resulting in moody abstractions that are both expressive and grounded.
