Collection: Kevin Collins
Kevin Collins was born in 1957 in Durban and studied at Michaelis School of Art, Cape Town in the early 70's. Collins' work both acknowledges a classical tradition while dwelling in a dream-world of fantasy and wonderment. His work references classical Western art, culture and mythology, while channeling his own multilingual global upbringing. Collins diverse oeuvre of artworks range from oil on board and canvas to his recent series of unique ceramic fables, myths and memes.
Collins’s subject matter is collected from years of travelling (many miles from the age of three) and making small sketches and picking up little bits of visual imagery from packaging, transport tickets and sweet wrappers from Burma to Bangalore. Some imagery emerges from his childhood and early love of illustrated story books.
Previously Collins was a creative director as well as a lecturer and trainer in advertising, film and visual art. He currently juggles his practice as a full-time artist, brand consultant and chef. Collins has exhibited in numerous group shows in South Africa.
