Marguerite Roux
Marguerite Roux (b. 1991, Beaufort West; based in Cape Town) is a South African contemporary artist working primarily in yarn and fabric. Her handwoven textiles explore time, memory, and the tactile language of weaving.
In 2014, Roux earned a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts (Fine Arts) from Stellenbosch University, distinguished with both the Keith Dietrich Award and the Timo Smuts Prize for academic excellence. She continued at Stellenbosch to attain a Master of Arts in Visual Arts, cum laude, in 2018. She is a three-time Top 100 finalist in the prestigious Sasol New Signatures Award.
Her work has been exhibited locally and internationally, including the 4th Istanbul Design Biennial in Turkey as part of Emelie Röndahl’s Google Weaving Stop-Time project (2018) and the Also Known as Africa (AKAA) Art Fair in Paris, France with Dyman Gallery (2019). She has also completed notable commissions, most recently three artworks for Singita’s Milele Lodge, located in the iconic Serengeti landscape of the Grumeti Reserve in Tanzania.
